Lunch isn't for wimps: Yangtze Noodle Bar, CastleCourt, Belfast

Tuesday, 18 October 2011

You can't really go wrong with a Chinese buffet. It's fast food, it is tasty, not the unhealthiest and it is good value. But the Yangtze Noodle Bar's location in the food court on the first floor of CastleCourt is far from ideal.

I have, before now, come up on the escalator, observed the screaming kids and the stressed-out shoppers, the huge queues and the lack of seating and turned around and promptly went back down and out the front doors again.

However, taking a trip in the post-lunchtime rush is a much more pleasant experience and it is not a bad place to watch the world go by when the hustle and bustle has calmed.

The Noodle Bar staff are pleasant and efficient in the face of much adversity.

The fare includes 'base' dishes of rice (boiled and fried), noodles and chips as well as snack-sized starters and a range of chicken, beef, seafood and vegetable dishes.

There are three 'fill your box' options of various sizes and prices, and nothing comes in at much over £5.

I chose rice, noodles and salt and chilli squid (which turned out to be chicken, but hey) for £4.50, a sizeable portion and I was full for hours. Top marks.
