Manufacturing jobs fall to 2.8m

Collapsed retailer Peacocks is moving in on new ownership after administrators were swamped with interest in all or part of the business.

MANUFACTURING job losses have been running at almost 3,400 a week, with 700,000 fewer posts since the recession, a study showed. An analysis by the GMB union revealed that manufacturing employment had slumped from 3.5m in 2006/07 to 2.8m last year, with more cuts being announced in recent weeks.
