A two-week stay in hospital led boss Gabriel Bradley to devise an innovative workload management system
It was back in 2008 when I was hospitalised for two weeks that I found myself constantly on the phone to my staff in my pizza business in Warrenpoint. As any boss can appreciate, I wanted to ensure that everything was running smoothly in my absence and more importantly, that nothing dropped off the agenda in terms of our workload.
This really was my inspiration. It kick-started my thought process into developing a structure where reporting lines could be more systematic and streamlined.
From that moment on Taskmaestro was born!
Wouldn't it be fantastic if there was a device that could remind staff of their daily duties, when they needed to be done and a device that could hold them accountable? By the time I was discharged from hospital, I had lined up appointments with patent lawyers.
Within the year, I had won the High Profile SMART Award which is organised by Invest NI and now the Taskmaestro product has an international patent pending.
Realising that it was going to take a major investment to finance the business, I attended an event in the Science Park in Belfast. It was here that I had to pitch my idea to investors from all over Ireland. This certainly proved to be a great success and through HALO, I had secured the second largest funding round ever, which enabled me to form Taskmaestro and bring in all the necessary expertise that I required.
I have been using Taskmaestro in my pizza business for the last nine months and the results have been remarkable. I achieved a score of ‘5' in the food hygiene rating scheme, largely down to the fact that my staff were being reminded every day of all food-related hygiene tasks that they had to do.
I am convinced that it can help everyone, from McDonalds to The Merchant Hotel. Business owners can reap the huge benefits of Taskmaestro through the fact that employees are being more efficient and all of the ‘must do' duties have been completed.
Taskmaestro is now a fully functioning business with a team of professionals, working to create a global company.
We officially launched Taskmaestro at SHOP which took place on September 27-29, 2011 in the RDS Simmonscourt, Dublin.
