Belfast's food businesses will be offering some Titanic treats when a culinary walking tour joins the menu of tourist delights in the city.

The five-stop foray into Belfast's Edwardian past will take in the sights, sounds and tastes of establishments from Nick's Warehouse to St George's Market.

The Belfast Bred theatre-tour, which is organised by Belfast City Council, will be led by RMS Titanic chef Barney, played by Fra Gunn, in a sketch written and directed by the Kabosh Theatre Company.

After enjoying sausages and bacon as part of a traditional Ulster Fry at the century-old Sawers Deli, tourists will head to the Mourne Seafood Bar to sample fresh fish from the waters off Northern Ireland's coast, before quenching their thirst at the award-winning John Hewitt bar. Next on the menu is a range of Irish cheeses at Nick's Warehouse in the Cathedral Quarter, followed by a Paddy's pizza - using a base of soda bread - at the Kitchen Bar.

A whizz round St George's Market, accompanied by one of the traders, completes the tour which aims to leave visitors full of food and knowledge of Belfast's historic past.

Sheila Dillon, the Belfast-born presenter of Radio 4's Good Food Progamme, said the tour - which will recreate the menu from the Titanic's ill-fated maiden voyage - would "transform your perception of Belfast".

Kerrie Sweeney, tourism, culture and arts manager with Belfast City Council, said: "We're inviting both local people and visitors to Belfast to get a real taste for the city by joining Barney as he recounts stories of the Edwardian city he knew and discover the world-class food and drink available throughout modern Belfast.

"It's a really fun - and delicious - way to explore our city," she added.

The tour, which runs every Friday and Saturday from April 16 (except May 14 and 15) leaves from Sawers Deli on College Street at 10am and ends in St George's Market at around 12:30pm.

Tickets cost £15 per person and can be booked at the Belfast Welcome Centre.
