StreamOn.net keeps looking to the future with Panasonic CCTV deal
Tuesday, 8 December 2009
One firm with QUBIS origins to watch out for in 2010 is StreamOn.net — a firm that could well be helping others watch you.
Started nine years ago by Glenn Thompson, the company has slowly been gaining ground for its video management systems and software for use with security cameras.
Based in Belfast it has recently signed a major deal with Panasonic, for its Winics-IP product — a video management system for linking hundreds of CCTV cameras together over a virtual matrix, and bringing CCTV control rooms into the digital age.
Employing 17 people, StreamOn has also provided products for HP and the school IT initiative C2K, where it produced a kind of YouTube for schools archive.

While it is not the only contract it has in the works, Glenn says the Panasonic deal has given the firm a route to market for a product it has created.
“In the past we’ve created products for people that have got large scale investment so we thought it was about time we did it ourselves. We’ve been working on the relationship with Panasonic for the last few years and in the last 18 months have been pulling this product together. The deal with Panasonic means we are effectively linked to a European market straightaway that we wouldn’t otherwise have access to ourselves as a small company.”
It has secured an R&D grant from Invest NI and a European finance guarantee from Ulster Bank to further its goals of competing with other firms in the video management system sector.
“The way we look at it is within five years we’ll become an export orientated company with £5m plus turnover and hopefully a place in the top five VMS systems in the world,” says Glenn.
