Tesco mayhem as tills crash

Shoppers at Tesco supermarkets in many parts of Northern Ireland faced long queues and shopping mayhem today after a computer glitch caused check-out tills to crash.

It is understood the computer malfunction — which affected stores across the UK — was discovered shortly before 8am.

The problem was confined to the check-out tills, with the self-service tills operating as normal.

Extra workers were drafted in to help reduce the waiting time for shoppers, with staff doubled at some stores.

According to one employee, a new computer programme had been installed overnight but when staff tried to work the tills today, a message came up saying that there was a malfunction.

A spokeswoman for Tesco said all attempts were being made to resolve the problem and apologised to customers.

She said: “As a result of an IT glitch, some Tesco stores in Northern Ireland were this morning experiencing problems at the check-outs.

“Our IT staff are working hard to sort out the problem.”

Some eejit forgot to feed the wee hamster in the wheel inside the computer so it just stopped so it did. After a good feed the wee fella will be up and running!

I think our Lord and Maker deliberately crashed the tills in response to Tesco's in Antrim making those poor little kiddie winks take off their GAA apparel.

Amen
