Women can fill skills shortage
Monday, 4 August 2008
A specialist recruiter is urging women who take career breaks to return to jobs in manufacturing, in order to address the skills shortage.
PRG said said that although manufacturing accounts for 13% of employment in Northern Ireland, only one in 20 of candidates interviewed by its Techsearch division were female.
Janette McCleave, head of TechSearch, said there was scope for more women to work in the sector.
"Although Northern Ireland has experienced a downturn in the headline number of manufacturing organisations in recent years, the remaining businesses are still undergoing huge positive change.
“These developments have created a large number of jobs across the manufacturing and scientific sectors, at all levels from support posts to senior management and ultimately a very buoyant market — but the skills shortage issue still requires attention."
