Chef returns to his roots

Celebritiy chef Paul Rankin is planning to close his Rain City café/grill restaurant on Belfast's Malone Road.

His spokeswoman said it was part of a restructuring designed to enable Mr Rankin to concentrate on the "top end" of the restaurant business.

The premises are expected to be taken over by a "gourmet burger" business which already has other outlets in the city.

Mr Rankin said: "We are in discussions about the possible sale of Rain City and nothing has been finalised at the moment.

"We made the decision over a year ago to look at the entire group with a view to consolidating. The decision regarding Rain City is part of this process and the key reason for this consolidation is to enable us to get back to our roots at the top end of the restaurant market."
