Kilkeel firm to take front seat in plane deal

Over 100 new jobs could be created in south Down as a local firm looks set to secure a major deal with an American airline company.

Thompson Solutions, based in Kilkeel, makes airline seats and is on the brink of winning a second contract with US airline Delta to produce luxury aeroplane seats.

Welcoming the potential jobs boost, South Down MLA Jim Wells said: " This is a great announcement for a local company and also for the wider Kilkeel area.

"The management and employees of Thompson Solutions must be congratulated for this successful venture which has the potential to create 120 new jobs.

"The economic prospects of Kilkeel have suffered much in recent years as a result of the downturn in the fish sector but if this venture goes ahead we will see two Kilkeel companies - Thompson Solutions and BE Aerospace - supplying 40% of all aircraft seats in the world," Mr Wells added.
