160 jobs boost as two restaurants open in city

An international ‘casual dining’ company said today it would be creating 160 jobs with the opening of two restaurants in Belfast.

Texas-based Brinker International, which operates in 24 countries, opens a Chili’s Grill & Bar at Victoria Square today.

This will be followed in October by the opening in the same complex of a branch of its Italian chain Maggianos.

Chili’s Grill & Bar serves southwest American cuisine, a mixture of Spanish, Mexican and Native American cooking. Its Belfast branch will seat 250 and feature Northern Ireland’s first margarita cocktail bar.

Greg Walther, president of global business development for Brinker International, said they were “delighted” to open in Belfast.

“Belfast is a fast-growing, cosmopolitan city and we are excited to open our doors in a premier, upscale shopping centre like Victoria Square,” he said.

Seventy full-time and part-time staff — with training in southwestern cuisine — will work in the restaurant.
