City Council planners have recommended the development at Corporation Street and Tomb Street is approved during a committee meeting.

The application is from developers McAleer & Rushe, but an operator has not yet been identified.

Planning permission was granted for a hotel development in the area on numerous occasions, dating back more than 10 years. Twenty-plus hotels are now at various stages of development in the city, with work started on a number of projects. That includes a £4m, 58-bedroom hotel from the owners of The Merchant.

And work is expected to begin soon on the £30m Grand Central at the 23-storey Windsor House building in the city.
