One of Belfast's best-known hotels is being given a relaunch and a rebrand following a £1.5m investment.

The Ramada Plaza at Shaw's Bridge will soon become the new Crowne Plaza, with an upgrade to all 120 rooms.

It's the first time the brand, which is owned by InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), has set up in Belfast. There are now 400 Crowne Plaza hotels across the globe.

The hotel is owned by Andras Hotels, which also operates two Holiday Inns, along with a Hotel Ibis. Work has also begun on Northern Ireland's first Hampton by Hilton, also part of Andras.

Director Rajesh Rana said: "We are delighted with the announcement that will see the introduction of Crowne Plaza to Northern Ireland.

"Our future refurbishment plans for the bedrooms will compliment the ongoing investment and improvements we have been making to the property in recent years. Our total investment in the hotel will be in excess of £3m.

"The investment in the Shaw's Bridge hotel has been funded by Danske Bank."
