A love of language and food for this twitterer

Think you can’t say much in 140 characters? How about a full recipe for yam and leek soup?

The author is Maureen Evans (@Maureen) one of the first members of the Twitter community. From Canada, she now lives in Co Antrim. “I'm obsessed with the possibilities and constraints of language, including new forums of conversation such as Twitter. I'm also interested in making things: creativity and learning to do things for oneself. I believe people are more capable than we think, including in our kitchens.”

A graduate student in creative writing at Queen's University, Maureen is working on a collection of poetry. That interest is reflected in her haiku stream on Twitter, @maureen. “Food is a also a passion of mine; I'm constantly cooking, and that interest is recorded on @cookbook.”

The initial idea of @cookbook was to share Maureen’s love of food with friends. “I felt Twitter was a way I could make people curious about cooking again.

Solving a tiny recipe makes you concentrate, and remember the cooking experience that you figured out.”
