AstraZeneca boss wields axe

The new boss of AstraZeneca, Pascal Sorier, took the knife to his workforce for the second time in under a week yesterday, axing 2,300 sales and administrator posts worldwide.

The pharmaceutical firm has cut more than 11,000 jobs over the past year. It employs 6,700 people in the UK where staff were worst-hit by cuts announced on Monday.
