Aussie paper to charge for web

THE Australian newspaper is to start charging for online access in October. It will follow the lead of News Corporation's sister publications Wall Street Journal and The Times. The Australian plans to charge for opinion columns and exclusives but breaking news, wire stories and general interest stories will continue to be available for free.

COMMENT RULES: Comments that are judged to be defamatory, abusive or in bad taste are not acceptable and contributors who consistently fall below certain criteria will be permanently blacklisted. The moderator will not enter into debate with individual contributors and the moderator’s decision is final.
