Bakery chain on a roll as sales rise

Demand for cut-price sausage rolls and a range of doughnuts ensured bakery chain Greggs bucked the gloom on the high street yesterday.

The business, with more than 1,5 stores, said like-for-like sales increased .8% in the 13 weeks to October 1. It has sold more than 1.4m Superstar Doughnuts in the past five weeks.
