Call for one body to drive economy

THE Executive should create a single department for the economy if it wants to successfully drive Northern Ireland's economy.

That was the message from Fergal McCann, who heads up Chartered Accountants Ulster Society at the industry body's dinner last night, who said he believes such a department would aline the education to the business sector here.

"Creating one new Department for the Economy, amalgamating the strengths of the Department for Enterprise, Trade and Investment and the Department of Employment and Learning and some roles of the Department of Education would make positive difference to how we drive our local economy," he said.
