Carpet company hits the floor

Three-quarters of the workforce at historic carpet firm Axminster has been made redundant after it entered administration.

The Devon firm, which dates back 250 years, blamed a sharp rise in raw material prices and economic difficulties for the decision to go into administration. Restructurers firm Duff & Phelps said it was necessary to make around 300 staff redundant.
