Carpet firm rolls out new showroom

By Clare Weir

A new £800,000 investment has been rolled out in Portadown by one of the town's longest established family firms.

Portadown Carpet Centre has unveiled a new 14,000 sq ft showroom which is expected to create up to six new jobs.

The Shillington Street venture will allow the company to significantly expand its operations, moving from a 3,000 sq ft unit in Bridge Street in Portadown to the impressive new premises.

Ryan Mawhinney of Ulster Bank's Portadown Business Centre said that Portadown Carpet Centre is a successful local family firm that the bank is pleased to help expand and develop.

"The new purpose-built premises will allow the company to stock many more lines than was possible in the previous store and therefore to capitalise on the opportunities that exist to take the business to the next level.

"Our new £300m fund for small to medium sized enterprises is enabling us to support local firms and the local economy at a time when other lenders are reluctant to lend to small firms," he said.

Ronnie Stinson, owner of Portadown Carpet Centre, said that the company was pleased to secure the finance for the investment.

"We were concerned about funding the expansion plans, particularly as we were aware that other lenders were not prepared to support this kind of investment," he said.

"We are very pleased to have the backing of Ulster Bank for what will be an extremely important step forward for the company."
