Civil servants in 48-hour strike over plan to close regional government office
Civil servants are to stage fresh strikes in protest at controversial plans to close a regional government office and move jobs to London.
Members of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) will walk out for 48 hours from tomorrow after voting overwhelmingly for action over plans to close the Business Department's Sheffield office.
PCS branch secretary Marion Lloyd said: "How can you claim to support a Northern Powerhouse, while at the same time send 250 policy jobs responsible for its delivery back to Whitehall?
"We will continue this campaign until senior management agree a no compulsory redundancy guarantee and to keep the Sheffield site open."
