A Family-run sauce business based in Co Down has acquired a wholesale rival.

Sauce Works paid an undisclosed sum to acquire Belfast-based Fat Frog Sauces.

Its founder, Frenchman Stuart Decodts, is joining Sauce Works as a sales and marketing executive.

And its production has now switched to Sauce Works' headquarters in Crossgar.

The Bell family set up the firm more than 20 years ago.

Managing director Paul Bell said: "Although also a sauce business, Fat Frog Sauces has historically operated within the quick service restaurant sector.

"Therefore, the acquisition complements our business as it expands Sauce Works' customer base considerably, and the additional volume will increase production.

"In addition to a wealth of new customers, we're thrilled that Stuart Decodts is joining our sales team as Stuart's knowledge of the sauce market will be invaluable as we further grow our business."

Sauce Works' products include mayonnaises, marinades, sachets and dressings.
