Co Down's Finnebrogue strikes new sausage deal
Co Down meat processor, Finnebrogue Artisan, has struck a new UK-wide deal to supply a range of own-brand 'Extra Special' Light & Lean Sausages to more than 350 Asda stores.
The Downpatrick firm's new contract has a retail value of £2m.
The firm first began supplying Asda in 2014, when it produced the entire 'Extra Special' sausage range for the supermarket's UK stores.
The addition of Light & Lean to the 16-strong range coincides with the start of the summer, a time when sausage sales traditionally spike.
With almost seven million packs of Asda's own-label premium sausages expected to sell over the summer months alone, the firm says its Light & Lean line will provide a healthier, gluten-free alternative to the popular barbeque staple.
The sausage which will be made from top quality pork sourced from high welfare standard farms across Northern Ireland and are designed to be low in fat, high in protein and contain only 71 kcals.
