Creamery is big cheese after supply deal with retail chain

A TYRONE cheese producer is to launch a new speciality cheese into UK supermarket chain Morrisons after securing a lucrative contract with the business.

Fivemiletown Creamery will supply Morrisons with cheese pearls filled with tomato and herbs, to be introduced as part the supermarket's own brand range. In addition, the chain - the UK's fourth largest - will launch six new own label lines from Fivemiletown into over 400 stores.

The company's well-established Boilíe Irish Cheese Pearls range - soft cheese pearls with flavours such as garlic and herbs - will also be stocked in 200 supermarkets.

Although the value of the deal remains undisclosed, it's understood to represent a substantial boost for the company as it expands its award-winning range of speciality cheese products.

Kevin McManus, Fivemiletown Creamery's sales manager, said: "The agreement with Morrisons is an immensely significant development for us and represents an important endorsement of the quality and innovation which underpin our new Boilíe cheeses."

The company, which saw record sales in 2011, employs a total of 80 people in its cheddar and speciality cheese production team.
