Demand for brickies on the rise in NI
Northern Ireland construction firms are facing a skills shortage as investment in commercial buildings takes off, it's claimed today.
Recruitment firm Manpower said Brexit was not denting the confidence of firms, and said companies here are recruiting in their strongest numbers since 2008, with construction companies in particular in need of new people.
The recruitment firm said continued investment in new commercial buildings was creating jobs for bricklayers, floor layers, and joiners, which is believed to have been causing a skills shortage and driving up salaries, particularly for temporary workers. Amanda White, head of specialist markets at Manpower Group, said: "Construction firms are hiring on all cylinders across the UK and Northern Ireland is no exception."
