Dublin Airport was the fastest growing major airport in Europe in the first six months of this year, according to the latest figures.

The latest data from ACI Europe, the trade association for European airports, showed passenger numbers at Dublin Airport increased by 13.4% in the first half of the year.

That makes Dublin the leading performer among top tier European airports, which have more than 25 million passengers passing through each year.

Last year the airport saw record numbers, with 25 million passengers using Dublin.

Belfast's two airports are not included in figures from ACI.

Passenger numbers at both Belfast airports also on the rise, with numbers at Belfast International up by 16% during April this year to 400,000, according to the latest figures released from the Civil Aviation Authority.

And more than 2.6 million people used Belfast City Airport last year.

Just this week Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) initiated the first stage of the tender process for its new runway.
