A Belfast fruit and veg company has credited improved efficiency measures for helping to increase annual sales by almost 15%.

5 Pac, which employs nine people, supplies packaged fruit and vegetables to a variety of large and small customers across Ireland.

The company was formed in 2004 as a division of the North Down Group - which started in Newtownards in 1989 - and markets the 100% Pure Five range for Spar outlets and Pick ME for other retail groups and independents, including Mace and Nisa.

5 Pac carried out a review of its operations to enhance product flow and resource management with help from Invest NI, as well as adopting lean manufacturing principles.

Ashley Megarry of 5 Pac said that the firm has generated significant cost savings and productivity improvements for the company, which helped secure almost 15% in additional sales over the year.

"With refined processes, reduced operating costs and increased turnover, we are now in a stronger position to compete for new business outside Northern Ireland," she said.
