Farmers 'are facing tough time'
Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill has warned that farmers are facing a tough time as new figures reveal a 16% decline in total income from farming in one year.
The provisional estimates for farm incomes were published by DARD which said total income from farming had dropped from £336m in 2013 to £282m last year.
Meanwhile, farm business incomes are expected to drop from an average of £29,606 in 2013/4 to £21,662 in 2014/15 - a drop of £7,944 or 27% per farm.
Ms O'Neill blamed falling prices and said farmers needed to improve efficiency. She said: "Farmers have had a very tough time. The total income from farming figure has significantly reduced and the farm level estimates show all sectors have been affected."
