Fashion store Carter in administration
High-end Belfast clothes shop Carter was placed in administration earlier this week.
The shop, owned by Dave Pennick, a former president of Belfast Chamber of Commerce, sells designer labels.
A notice in its Lisburn Road store at the weekend indicated it was likely to close, and at the Queen Street shop many items have been reduced by 80% as part of a sale event.
In a statement the company said: “Carter Clothing Limited has experienced a difficult trading environment during the last 18-34 months, which has been exacerbated by a further downturn and general tightening of the credit market.”
The statement said trading would continue as normal while all options — including a possible sale — were being considered.
The shop has faced increased competition since the Victoria Square shopping centre opened its doors two years ago with designer outlet Cruise and top-end designer labels also being sold in the House of Fraser department store.
