Final credits are yet to roll for Xtra-vision

Movie rental chain Xtra-vision which employs over 200 staff in Northern Ireland has gone into receivership
Movie rental chain Xtra-vision which employs over 200 staff in Northern Ireland has gone into receivership

The receivers at troubled film rental company Xtra-vision have been sifting through the company's books and earmarked a total of 11 stores for closure out of a possible 42 in Northern Ireland.

The slimming down of the firm was inevitable and given the huge shift in how we watch films, it's perhaps surprising that some remain.

But there's obviously a demand for DVD and game rental in certain parts of the country or else the receivers knives would have cleared a much larger path.

They say that potential suitors have also been in touch with a view to buying the group so there's every reason to think that Xtravision will remain a fixture on our High Streets.

What will be interesting to see is if any buyer sticks to the DVD rental model or looks to exploit online film viewing.
