First Lady hopes Walmart health drive will bear fruit
President Barack Obama once hit out at Asda-owner Walmart for allegedly anti-union policies. But now his wife at least seems to have buried the hatchet.
Michelle Obama has endorsed a new campaign by Walmart - which has the biggest sales of any supermarket in the US - to ensure fruit and vegetables are affordable for poor families. The First Lady joined Walmart bosses in Washington, where she said: "This charter is a huge victory for folks all across this country." To have a White House resident on-side for a major campaign is a coup most corporations could only dream of, and underlines the commitment of the First Lady to spreading the word about healthy eating. Or the determination of Walmart to become even bigger as it begins a charm offensive in a bid to get permission to build stores in Democrat cities like New York and LA.
