Fund helps to create nine telecoms jobs

By Clare Weir

Nine new jobs have been created at a Belfast telecoms firm thanks to a small business loan.

Connect Telecom, based on the Lisburn Road, says the funding from the £50m Growth Loan Fund will help create the new positions by the end of March 2014, including customer operations and sales roles.

Finance for the fund – which provides loans to established Northern Ireland SMEs seeking to access growth finance – has been provided by Invest Northern Ireland and private investor, Northern Ireland Local Government Officers' Superannuation Committee (NILGOSC).

Founded in 2007, Connect Telecom has grown throughout the Northern Ireland market, as well as expanding in to the Republic of Ireland and across Wales. Currently employing 20 members of staff, the firm plans to use the loan to support expansion in to the Scottish market selling mobile, fixed-line and broadband services.

Connect Telecom is recognised as the only Vodafone Gold Partner in Northern Ireland, an award to recognise long-term capability in providing expert sales or technical support. Robin Brown, sales director at Connect Telecom, said the deal represented a strong vote of confidence in the firm's potential.

"It has been a long-term goal of Connect Telecom to expand in to the Scottish market," he said.

"We're capable of supplying a full service to business clients of all sizes and this loan will strengthen our ability to acquire and serve new customers.

"Telecoms is a competitive industry, but what's enabled us to stand out is taking a proactive approach to understanding what best suits our customers and carefully tailoring our packages accordingly."
