Gadget giants' woes deepen

Panasonic's losses ballooned to 698bn yen (£5.4bn) in the second quarter as sales of flat screen TVs and laptops plunged, and restructuring costs proved bigger than initially expected.

The figures were far worse than the £827m loss racked up for the July-September period last year.
