A major site in east Belfast owned by the Department of Finance and Personnel (DFP) has gone on the market for £2m.

Rosepark is a 4.26-acre site located on the Upper Newtownards Road, with the department currently based at an 8,000 sq ft office building.

A DFP spokesman said the site, owned by the department, is "being sold because the premises are no longer needed for operational purposes. This sale is in line with the Executive's asset management strategy and will contribute to budgets for 2015/16." The area has been put up for sale by Lambert Smith Hampton, and currently has an outline planning application in the works to build 48 homes. It's being marketed inviting offers in the region of £2m.

The department also operates other offices, including a site at Airport Road West just outside the city. The Asset Management Unit is aiming to claw back cash for Stormont through selling off buildings and other assets.

It has estimated savings of around £23.6m each year.
