Greek austerity strikes escalate

Greek railway workers and journalists joined a wave of strikes against austerity measures imposed to prevent the country defaulting on its debts.

Strikes kept island ferries in port for a second day, while rotting mounds of rubbish remained uncollected for the 17th day in the cities. Strikers include tax collectors and lawyers.
