High street bakery Greggs - which is rapidly expanding across Northern Ireland - has started selling lower fat pasties after seeing a significant uptake in business from customers looking for healthier options.

The retailer is selling a katsu chicken and vegetarian Bombay potato pasty that both come in at under 300 calories and meet green or amber traffic light labelling requirements for fat, saturated fat, salt and sugar.

The company posted a 6% rise in sales to £422m while like-for-like sales lifted by 3.8% during the six months to July 2.

It said the figures had been boosted by Britons buying its healthier ranges, which now account for more than 10% of sales and include products such as teriyaki chicken noodle and falafel.
