Harvey Group buys renewable energy company Solmatix
Renewable energy firm Solmatix has been taken over by mechanical and electrical services company the Harvey Group.
The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, brings to 110 the number of people employed directly in Northern Ireland and Great Britain by the Newtownabbey-based group.
Solmatix Renewables will continue to operate from its Nutts Corner premises near Crumlin as an independent company.
Harvey Group has turnover of £30m and more than 80 staff.
Solmatix was founded in 2008 by Richard and Norah-Anne Bell
and has grown to achieve a turnover of £6m and 30 staff.
The companies said the move would be a springboard for further expansion into the multi-million pound UK and Ireland markets.
Harvey Group managing director Brian Harvey said there was a perfect fit between the two organisations. "Having worked with Solmatix on a number of contracts, we'd always been impressed with their engineering rigour and professionalism," he said.
He said acquiring Solmatix gave Harvey Group "expertise that would have taken us years to acquire otherwise."
