A trip to the famous Betty's Tea Rooms in Yorkshire has inspired Hastings Hotels Group to launch its own clotted cream.

The company has joined with Farmview Dairies to create Northern Ireland's first version of the indulgent teatime treat.

Managing director Howard Hastings said: "As part of an educational chef food tour and trip to Yorkshire last year, we visited the famous Betty's Tea rooms in Harrogate and sampled their delicious afternoon tea.

"We noticed that they used a locally produced Yorkshire clotted cream instead of the traditional Devon or Cornish creams.  As we have the finest dairy herd in the world I asked myself, why there wasn't a Northern Irish alternative?"

He then contacted Richard McDowell, managing director of Farmview Dairies in Castlereagh - and now Slieve Donard head chef Hazel Magill has created a clotted cream using milk from Farmview. She summed up the product as having a "perfect smooth and rich texture with just a lovely layer of crust".
