Hotel group sees big rise in visitors from Republic
The number of visitors from the Republic to hotels owned by Hastings Group has more than doubled in the last two months due to the weak pound. Hastings, which owns six hotels including the Europa and Culloden, says visitor numbers from the Republic increased in October and November compared to a year earlier.
Julie Hastings, marketing director for Hastings Hotels, said: "We are delighted to see a remarkable increase in bookings from the Republic of Ireland on this time last year. In recent years the weak euro meant we certainly noticed a decrease in our bookings from the Republic of Ireland."
Meanwhile, the public will get the chance to see revamped plans next week for the group's new 304-bedroom Grand Central Hotel, which will become Northern Ireland's largest.
