Lego to appoint first British chief executive in management shake-up
Lego is to appoint its first British chief executive as the Danish toymaker embarks on a wide-ranging management shake-up.
Bali Padda, currently the group's chief operating officer, is to take over from boss Jorgen Vig Knudstorp on January 1, who will himself replace Niels Jacobsen as chairman.
Mr Padda was born in India in 1956 but his family moved to England when he was 12. He has held a number of roles at Lego since joining in 2002, including heading up logistics.
Mr Vig Knudstorp became the first non-family member to head the group when he took the top job in 2004, overseeing the toymaker's revival.
Thomas Kirk Kristiansen, the fourth generation owner of the Lego Group, said: "Bali possesses the right Lego mindset.
"He has a deep knowledge of our entire company, a very clear sense of what we need to do to take the company to the next level, and he is a true ambassador."
The rejig also includes the creation of a new division, Lego Brand Group, aimed at exploring new opportunities for the group.
