The commercial property agency Lisney is forging a new fundraising partnership with homelessness charity the Simon Community.

The number of households presenting as homeless in Northern Ireland last year reached over 19,500, due to factors including domestic violence, family breakdown and financial stresses.

Brian Shanks, fundraising co-ordinator for the Simon Community NI, said: “It‘s great to see businesses giving back to the community. In a way, our jobs are very similar in that we both find property for our customers. In our case, it’s putting a roof over someone’s head, and in Lisney’s it’s finding premises from which companies can operate, so there is a sense of shared purpose and synergy.”

Lisney’s managing director Declan Flynn said: “We have a close-knit team here at Lisney and many of us will be taking part in events, such as marathons and sky dives, to raise money for the charity.

“I’m also keen for our staff to visit locations where the Simon Community is operating to see the work they do first hand.”
