Lunch isn't for wimps: Steamers Coffee Shop, Templepatrick

Nestled in the complex of shops at the 'Twelfth Milestone' in Templepatrick, this bustling little place is popular with locals and passing travellers alike.

All the food offerings have a distinctly home-made feel and nothing on the menu is over the £7 mark.

Fare includes soup and sandwiches, up to heartier mains like steak burgers and lasagne. There are plenty of cakes on offer, too, if you have room for afters - we spotted a mouthwatering lemon meringue pie and a banoffee but sadly had neither the time or appetite to indulge.

I chose chicken goujons with salad, sweet chilli dip and chips while my companions chose soup and a sandwich and toastie respectively.

My goujons were excellent while my friends remarked upon the quality of the tomato and basil soup.

The toastie was huge and the chicken salad sandwich did exactly what it said on the tin, filled to bursting rather than the usual lettuce leaf and slice of tomato as a concession to 'salad'.

The bill for these three filling meals, a Diet Coke and two teas was £21 exactly - and all three of us agreed that we will definitely be back to try those cakes that we missed out on.
