Meat merchant Peter celebrates more success with award
Meat merchant Peter Hannan has added yet another award to his trophy cabinet.
Mr Hannan, whose business is based in Moira, Co Down, triumphed in the agri-food category of the Ulster Bank Business Achievers Awards. The programme is supported by the Belfast Telegraph. Mr Hannan, who is originally from Co Kildare, was credited by the judges with "changing how quality meat is sourced".
He was also praised for developing a unique salt-ageing process, building Himalayan salt chambers for treating his beef. His retail outlet, The Meat Merchant, was opened to the public to meet the demand for restaurant-quality meat at home.
Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph earlier this year, Mr Hannan said the meat business had been "good to us, but we've suffered everything from BSE, foot and mouth, and hijackings".
And he added: "But whatever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger."
