Credit unions in Northern Ireland gave new loans of around £237m to members last year, according to figures from the Irish League of Credit Unions (ILCU).
The ILCU said membership had also grown by 12,000 in the same period, giving it a total membership in the province of 400,000. Loans to members across its 103 branches totalled £463m - though a spokesman said loans for the present year were likely to have fallen.
