Thousands of cars in the UK face being recalled over fears they have faulty airbags.

Some 4,196 Fiat Chrysler vehicles, including models of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Lancia from 2010 to 2014 , are subject to the recall by the car maker.

Concerns were raised that airbags in some of the cars could fail to deploy and seat belts may not tighten in a head-on collision if they have a specific wire routing.

It is not believed all of the models subject to the recall could be affected.

The fault may be linked to three deaths and five injuries worldwide, Fiat Chrysler said.

Globally, Fiat Chrysler is recalling more than 1.9 million vehicles because of the defect.

Owners of the relevant vehicles will be contacted and offered to have the parts replaced for free, the company said.
