Outsourcing company Mount Charles has said it is seeking fresh contractors to work on its new premises after the administration of Mascott Construction.

Mount Charles last year bought the former home of Botanic Inns on Ormeau Road in a £1.6m deal. It announced that Belfast-based Mascott Construction would be the lead contractor on the job just last month.

But Mascott, which had around 30 direct employees, went into administration two weeks ago - and Mount Charles said it is now looking for a new firm to complete the work. A spokeswoman said: "Work is still commencing on the Ormeau Road premises and they (Mount Charles) are currently in discussions with a number of companies to seek the best way forward for the project."

Mascott Construction was founded in 1992 and carried out major contracts, including the building of the MAC Theatre in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter.

Business advisory firm EY was appointed administrators to the company earlier this month. But Gareth Loye, owner of M&M Contractors, has since set up Mascott Construction (Europe), suggesting there may be an attempt to revive the name and assets under new ownership.
