New fears over jobs at Tyrone Crystal
There are fresh fears over the future of dozens of jobs at Tyrone Crystal.
A series of meetings were held yesterday as moves continued to find a buyer or investor for the Dungannon-based firm.
Meanwhile, workers were last night expressing fears for the future of the plant.
It is understood that accountants BDO have been helping market the business to prospective buyers in England and Ireland.
Tyrone Crystal has been experiencing a downturn in demand for its products for some time, and news that the business had been put on the market was revealed by the Belfast Telegraph last Tuesday.
Directors confirmed they were looking for a purchaser or investor, citing the tough economic climate as the reason.
The factory’s 37 employees were informed of the decision at the end of last month.
The company, which is due to celebrate its 40th anniversary next year, has emerged as one of Northern Ireland’s flagship firms since it started trading in 1971.
It employs highly-skilled workers and has played an important role in attracting tourists to the Dungannon area.
