New head of chartered accountants

The Chartered Accountants Ulster Society has elected Darren McDowell as chairman at its 106th AGM in Belfast.

Mr McDowell, who takes over as chairman from Fergal McCann, is a partner at Belfast-based chartered accountancy firm Harbinson Mulholland.

He is a partner in the firm's business advisory department and has particular expertise in assisting high-growth knowledge-based enterprise clients.

Addressing the society's AGM, he pledged that the Ulster Society and its members are determined to assist Northern Ireland's recovery from the lengthy downturn and make a significant contribution to the local economy.

The society represents more than 3,500 chartered accountants and is a district society of the Chartered Accountants Ireland, the largest and oldest professional accountancy body in Ireland.
