Nine new jobs created at Murdock

By Clare Weir

Nine new jobs have been created with a £500,000 investment in a new builders merchants in east Belfast.

Murdock Builders' Merchants supplies building materials, tools and DIY products and now operates 10 branches across Northern Ireland and in Balbriggan, Co Dublin.

It was set up to sell products to the building and construction sector. But the company has developed over the last 30 years in response to growing demand for DIY and hardware products.

The new branch is on a site formerly occupied by Rugby Engineering, off the main Castlereagh Road.

Branch manager Mr Ken Robson said: "We've always set ourselves apart from the larger warehouse-style DIY retailers, and thanks to our expert team, local knowledge and customer-focused approach, we've become a recognised and trusted resource for builders and the wider construction sectors," he said.

He said the company had also seen factors such as the recession impact on their market.
