Norbrook training scheme proves to be hugely successful
Norbrook Laboratories embarked upon a pilot Level 2 and 3 combined apprenticeship programme in partnership with Southern Regional College (SRC) in April 2014.
Seven apprentices were selected to take part in the collaboration, which will involve them completing both the level 2 and the level 3 laboratory and science technician apprenticeship qualifications over an 18 month placement with Norbrook.
During this time, the apprentices will be vocationally trained in laboratory and associated technical activities by Norbrook's in-house experts, with further knowledge delivery from SRC. Provision of on-the-job training offers a rare opportunity to "earn while you learn".
In addition, Norbrook has provided first-class training from the outset, tailored to specific analytical techniques and company procedures.
Having seen first-hand the skills development and personal progression of these individuals over their first four months, it is anticipated that they will continue to develop and flourish during and post-apprenticeship completion.
The level of enthusiasm and determination from the apprenticeship cohort has exceeded all expectations.
This is testament to the calibre of mentorship they have received on the job within Norbrook combined with the input of Southern Regional College.
This pilot apprenticeship programme has provided a significant opportunity for this group of individuals to embark on an exciting career opportunity with a global leader in the pharmaceutical industry.
Norbrook is currently working with SRC towards the implementation of the next stage of the programme, the Higher Level Apprenticeships Levels 4/5. It is expected that these will roll out in the near future.
