Northern Ireland food firms take top prizes
It's been a glorious weekend for Northern Ireland's foodie culture - with two local companies scooping major awards.
Meat maestro Peter Hannan won gold at the World Steak Challenge after his salt-aged Glenarm Shorthorn sirloin wowed the judges. It was the only gold winner from the island of Ireland, he said.
"Northern Ireland is punching above its weight. It's a work in progress, but we're heading in the right direction," he added.
Meanwhile, Harry's Shack on Portstewart Strand was named Best Newcomer at the Observer Food Monthly awards. Observer food critic Jay Rayner said the beach restaurant has established itself as a star of Northern Ireland's fast-emerging food scene.
